been down 30%. the outlook below the estimates. david: let's talk about citi unfortunately because they cut so many workers. their stocks taking off. nicole: leading the dow financials really well today. david: we will talk about all the financials coming up but let's take a look at the general indices with the bells ringing on wall street. we got kind of a split decision. you have to remember the negative on the nasdaq is primarily from one stock, apple getting killed pulling down the entire index. when you spent much of a divergence in what is happening on the nasdaq, there is something with one or two stocks in this case a lot of it has to do with what happened to apple and at the end of the day trading down 7%, a huge loss for apple. liz: apple has an 18% waning. if they continue their slide, looking ahead about 1% today, but if apple continues a pretty dramatic slide, watch this etf, you could suffer bigger losses. david: nicole talk about bank of america. seeing a bump topping $10, the first time that's happened since july 2011. whether it is directly related to what happened

the victims in redwood city. they were hospitalized after a hazmat scare. firefighters with the sequoia trailer park -- went to the sequoia trailer park and say people there had set off a bug fogger but did not leave the home. they called 911 after starting to deal the effects of the insect tide. firefighters and -- insecticides. firefighters and three residents were taken to the hospital. they are all expected to be okay. >>> well, classes resume, schools are open again this morning in newton, except for sandy hook elementary. we have new details about the mother of the shooter in that rampage. people who knew nancy lanza say she was devoted to her children. one aunt said she would come to school and help her son who was a quiet child. many say that nancy would also help friends an traingers. in the meantime, we still know very little about why the young gunman killed children at that elementary school. the fbi said they couldn't get information from a computer at the gunman's home because he had destroyed it with either a hammer or a screwdriver before that massacre. while we're heari

of midway airport. another way for the city to lose money. the city just privatize the parking meters. $1.5 billion deal, 75 years, but the problem is this. they got all the money up front and the city spent all the money already, and now in the parking meters are out of order because they're tearing up the street they have to pay the company back. usually privatization does a better job of managing things like airports and the government tenders to do, but people in chicago are kind of wary about this. he wants to privatize midway airport. have a deal. ithey deal to do it for $2.5 billion. airports are huge generators of cash. the parking concessions, food and beverage concessions, rental car rentals, the places that do that tends to be a big cash generator. companies like to get in on that, i like to do it more efficiently. but here's the problem. don't get the money up front and spend it somewhere. say this time they will not do that, to be a revenue stream. instead of a revenue jumped to balance the budget. i guess we will see. ashley: just come it looks markedly orderly behind you gi

stock market can go up. henry blodgett joins us from new york city. good to see you as always. >> thanks for having me. >> and obviously this is a stock that people have tremendous profits in, so to the extend they want to take advantage of lower capital gains, that makes more sense. more fundamentally, they're in sort of a product hold here. they bakley came out with everything in the last few months, we're going to go through this period where they probably won't have anything exciting to announce for a while, now the television has been delayed unit next fall, according to gene muenster. then growth is slowing, and more importantly the margin is likely to compress. that's the big thing that worries me. they're going to go to a lower marge margin of mix products. it's hard to see stocks rise in the face of a compressing market. you have downside protection unless the thing completely falls apart. so i think the valuation is actually help 68 here. >> if apple has a disappointing season, where does the stock go? >> i don't know. i think it would certainly go down. the iphone numbers have

toward really slimming down citi by the new ceo. he has a quote in here saying these actions are logical next steps in citi's transformation and says they're committed to strategy that continues to leverage in the global banking market. if you go through the list of where these jobs are actually coming from, institutional clients group which is investment banking a quarter of the job cuts are going to come from there. my 2013 predictions i said that group would slim down by half. interesting that they are cutting a big chunk of that group. global consumer banking is responsible for 35% of the cuts and then going on through the other business lines like citi holdings, those are responsible for smaller portion of those jobs. citi getting smaller. a billion dollars going to be the pretax charge in the fourth quarter of next year. 11,000 jobs a big move from the new ceo over there. carl? >> all right. thank you very much, kayla. we're reading through the release right now ourselves. big strategic move. >> how many people work at this bank? i feel like they've been firing forever. citi did no

news from citi the beginning of other companies doing the same? suzanne pratt reports. >> reporter: 11,000 jobs are a lot of layoffs, even for a bank as huge as citi. and there could be more. that's because the monster firm is still struggling to recover from the great recession even though it has fired a lot of other workers in the last few years. the thing is, citi has a new c.e.o. in michael corbat, and experts say he's anxious to make his mark, even if that includes cutting staff. and the need to slim down is not ique to citi; it's indtry- wide. a financial industry runs into huge problems. it happened in the '30s, and it happened in the last five years. when you go through these periods, you go through a lot of change. that industry is now trying to figure out what is the right size of the industry. >> reporter: still, economists say citi's action today is not the start of a new wave of mass layoffs across corporate america. the nation's job market may not be robust, but it's not frozen, either. in fact, today, the payroll firm a.d.p. reported 118,000 new private sector jobs were

york city area, we have not seen the price relief other places in the nation have. >> no, we haven't. there was a little bit of almost an embolism that occurred when the pipeline shut down and we didn't get the normal flow of products from the gulf coast after sandy, a little bit from isaac too, so our prices here in the northeast are actually 10 or 15 cents above the lows for the year. and i suspect that may continue for a little while. on the west coast, we had a nice down trend, but today of all days, when a lot of people aren't even showing up, kind of like the giants yesterday, we're seeing prices actually move higher in california in a couple refinery issues. so that's going to be the hot market again in 2013. you've got an adversarial relationship between refiners and regulators and that doesn't add up to anything good. dagen: there's something very strange going on in terms of the wholesale market for gasoline and export of gasoline. can you explain that? >> yeah, one of the reasons the east coast has higher prices is -- and there's plenty of gulf coast product is the pipel
